We took the weekend off to get wild in Joshua Tree. Below, Mike combats the desert heat by Kooling off. Expert play.

Liability issues force everyone to restrict anything with a possible risk, but the Joshua Tree national forest is one of the last frontiers where you can run wild without being asphyxiated by rules. After paying a $15 park entrance fee, we parked our car on the side of the road and hiked 3 miles into the desert, made a camp, and didn't see a soul. Nobody came to check on our site, nobody made sure we had water, we could succeed or fail as we chose.

There is an oasis at joshua tree. palm trees in the middle of a brutal desert. pretty cool.

Derek Mead did all of the photography for the photoshoot a couple weeks ago and he brought his camera. You can do some pretty cool stuff with long exposures and a flashlight.
